Frequently asked questions
Installations: Generally under 2 weeks, and as quick as 2 business days, if feasible.
Migrations: Once your old ISP cancels your existing Fibre service, we can activate your service with Atomic. Notice periods with other ISPs vary, so check your contract, but they are usually 1 calendar month. When the migration takes place, you will get an email and SMS from us, and you will need to reconfigure your router.
Reconnections: If all the fibre equipment is present, can be powered on, and the indicator lights do not show a fibre fault, we can reconnect your Fibre line within 2-3 business days, sometimes the same day.
Exceptions: Sometimes there are exceptions to the rule and we will communicate to you if there is a cause for delay as soon as we know what the problem is. As an ISP we must adhere to the Fibre Network Operators procedures and response times.
Fibre coverage is determined by the Fibre Network Operators; Octotel, Frogfoot, Vumatel and Openserve.
You can use our Fibre Coverage Map to see which Fibre Network operator we work with is in your area. Enter your address, then use the toggles to see which Fibre Network covers your address.
We hold ICASA licenses for the Cape Town Municipality and the Winelands District. We are only permitted to provide services that fall within those areas.
The packages on this page are Home Fibre packages.
Fibre coverage maps provide indicative coverage and do not guarantee fibre service feasibility.
Our fibre packages focus on delivering unbeatable performance and support, not just being the cheapest. Here's why:
- We buy more local and international bandwidth than we need. No throttling, shaping, or capping, ever. When we hit 80% capacity, we add more.
- We use multiple upstream providers across all major undersea cables, ensuring redundancy. When others go down, we stay online. Extra capacity means a higher cost, but better reliability.
- We care about networking standards and don't outsource our network. We're one of the only ISPs in South Africa to implement all MANRS protocols, protecting you from common routing threats.
- Expert support means no call centre runaround – you'll always speak to a fibre pro.
Want to save? Our referral program offers up to 20% off monthly, making our packages exceptional value!
Fibre package speeds are displayed in the maximum achievable Download Speed/Upload Speed, in Megabits per second (Mbps).
We generally recommend 100/100 Mbps or more for most cases.
For small users with a single TV streaming Netflix/DSTV/Prime and 1-2 people working from home the entry level packages should suffice. You are welcome to upgrade your Fibre line if you need more bandwidth.
If you frequently download/upload large files, or have to wait during frequent software updates, then getting the fastest line speed option will save you time.
No Fibre equipment: If there is no existing Fibre equipment in the property, you will need a new Fibre installation.
Current active service: If you have an active service with another ISP, choose migration.
Existing installation: If there is fibre equipment in your property but no existing fibre ISP service choose reconnection. If any equipment is missing or damaged we will arrange for Octotel to schedule hardware replacement. There is sometimes an additional cost for this.
Unsure: If you are unsure contact us with your full address, with unit number if you are in a complex, and we can check.
Fibre networks will generally allow a second fibre line to be installed in a granny flat or another building on your property, and will not allow a second line in the same building/unit that already has an fibre installation.
Getting the second line installed can take a little longer than a normal installation due to the order validation process and adding the new address into their system.
Some packages include a free-to-use WiFi router and some do not. Please review each package details if that package includes a free-to-use WiFi router. Please also make note of the terms and conditions related to up-front discounts.
On the order form select the same device that's labelled as free-to-use on the package and we will discount the device on your first invoice.
Some packages include a free-to-use WiFi router as a promotional up-front discount for new customers. On the order form select the same device that's labelled as free-to-use on the package and we will discount the device on your first invoice.
You are welcome to use any WiFi router that is fibre compatible:
- Dedicated WAN port
- Can be configured to use DHCP/Dynamic IP in its WAN settings, or PPPoE for Openserve
- Preferably dual band WiFi 5 or better with Gigabit Ethernet ports
Avoid trying to use an old WiFi router or a router with locked firmware from an old ISP. You're going to use your WiFi day in, day out, so it's worth having great WiFi.
WiFi router delivery: We use a next-business-day courier service and aim to deliver your hardware to you slightly before your service is activated. If you need emergency or same-day delivery, please contact us to make a plan and ensure you have already placed an order with us.
WiFi router warranty: We will honour the warranty provided by our hardware supplier and help with the logistics of returning and delivering the new kit.
WiFi router returns and upgrades: If you choose to upgrade your WiFi router you may return the original unit in its original condition and packaging and we will issue you a credit on the new unit. We cannot credit devices we cannot re-deploy.
Typically, a usable WiFi signal will reach 30-60 meters from the router, if there are objects or walls in the way it won't go as far.
If you have a large home we can provide you with an on-site consultation and quote you with a solution that matches your budget. From a Wireless Mesh system, or running cables for additional WiFi access points.
You are able to upgrade or downgrade your fibre service anytime without penalty. Please be aware of these conditions:
- Upgrades and downgrades must be requested on the working day before the 25th of each month.
- Upgrades are processed in 0-2 working days, and billed pro-rata for the remainder of the month.
- Downgrades are processed on the 1st of the following month.
- You cannot downgrade to a restricted or promotional service.
If you receive up-front discounts on fees like a fibre installation, free fibre migration or fibre reconnection, we will charge a pro-rata claw-back fee:
- If you cancel within the first 6 months for migrations/reconnects
- In the first 12 months for installations
If you receive a free-to-use WiFi router and cancel in the first 12 months, you may return the device in its original condition and packaging, or pay a pro-rata claw-back if you choose to keep it.
Expect to see some or all of the following items on your invoice:
Your first bill will be emailed to you on the 24th of the month after your service is activated, or shortly after. Your first invoice will include:
- Fibre service fee for the month that you were connected (pro-rata until the end of that month)
- Fibre service fee for the next month (we bill in advance)
- Router cost (if you ordered a router from Atomic)
- Once-off Installation/Migration/Reconnection fee (the amount charged will depend on the service you ordered)
- Static IP address rental fee (if applicable)
If you spot anything you think shouldn't be on your first invoice, please email our Accounts team and we will help.
We encourage you to use our monthly debit order service – it’s less admin for everyone.
We run a single debit order batch each month which is submitted to our payment provider on the 1st of each month. This is to cater for people paid between the 25th and the end of the month. You should see the debit go off on the 2nd or 3rd of the month depending on whether it’s a public holiday or weekend.
If you have queries about Direct Debit deductions please contact our Accounts team - we are able to resolve problems much faster than the banks can.
We also offer card payments and EFT payments on request. Please note paying via EFT with the wrong payment reference might result in service disruption if your service is suspended due to the payment not being found.
We do not accept cash.
