VOIP and using your landline over your fibre 📞 #
Please note pricing and product information relating to Switchtel might change, please visit their website via the link for the latest information.
If you want to cancel your landline but not lose your number or save money on your calls then you can use VOIP.
We don’t do VOIP ourselves, but we do have some tips and experience in helping customers get set up. These are not all the VOIP options available to you, and depending on your needs you will need to set up, deal with and get billed by the appropriate VOIP company.
As far as quality and reliability VOIP there should be no difference between a landline and a VOIP line. VOIP is also cheaper and is very convenient if you use a VOIP app on a smartphone, so is suitable for use on your home fibre internet, or business fibre internet.

VOIP Handsets #
You can buy a handset (~R800-R3000), or use an app on your smartphone. “Bria” is probably the best, and there are plenty of other free options. However Bria comes with a “Push Notification” service which allows for better reachability, and there is a very small monthly fee for this which is currently around R15/m. Keep in mind your mileage will vary based on your device and whether it is iOS or Android (Android allows for better push notifications).
